There were no academies, no charter schools, no gifted programs. In fact, when she drove her first route, there were only 36 schools, 50 fewer than today.<\/p>\n<p>Bernard is all about safety. Now in her 47<sup>th<\/sup> year of driving, she has not had one single preventive crash.<\/p>\n<p>She has transported thousands of students over the years and currently drives students with special needs each day.
