They perched in home windows.\u00a0They sat along street curbs.<\/p>\n<p>Some had cleaned their rooms. One family made a YouTube video.<\/p>\n<p>They were ready.<\/p>\n<p>Their much-anticipated guests? Rosemont Elementary School teachers and staff.<\/p>\n<p>Before the school\u2019s open house events next week, Rosemont staff made announced visits to homes Tuesday, Sept. 1, to meet and greet their students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI attended the Model Schools conference earlier this summer and one thing almost all these successful schools had in common were home visits,\u201d said principal Cari Hall.\u00a0\u201cI decided this would be worthwhile endeavor for Rosemont \u2014 to go into our communities, to see where students live, to get students excited about coming back to school and to remove any barriers between home and school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And the students were excited.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_0845.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4155\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_0845.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0845\" width=\"2429\" height=\"1815\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_0845.jpg 2429w, https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_0845-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_0845-1024x765.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_0845-401x300.jpg 401w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2429px) 100vw, 2429px\" \/><\/a>\u201cYou mean, my son\u2019s teacher is coming to our house to meet him?\u201d asked one parent of Hall to make sure she understood the letter and phone call she received. \u201cHe is so excited,\u201d the parent told Hall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish school started tomorrow,\u201d lamented a fourth-grade student following her teacher\u2019s visit to the house.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers brought each student a goodie bag filled with school supplies, books and snacks that had been donated to the school, and some teachers received cards and gifts from students.<\/p>\n<p>Hall said twin brothers made a YouTube video in advance for their parents to show their visiting teacher because the boys would be out of town. The students, who will be new Rosemont this year, wanted the teacher to \u201cmeet\u201d them before the first day of school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeeing the joy on their faces and on the faces of their parents was worth it, and it was an experience I will never forget. It will definitely make me an even more compassionate teacher,\u201d said second-grade teacher Debbie Edwards.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Students were on the lookout.
