Throughout the division, children took part in special assemblies, had new reading material and were part of classroom activities that showcased and honored \u00a0the contributions of African Americans.<\/p>\n<p>For example, students in Demetria Cofield&#8217;s second grade class at Holland Elementary School researched famous African Americans and displayed their findings on paper bag vests.<\/p>\n<p>The history of African-Americans is an integral part of the division\u2019s curriculum and is commemorated throughout VBCPS.
