{"id":2730,"date":"2014-12-15T11:20:48","date_gmt":"2014-12-15T15:20:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/?p=2730"},"modified":"2015-03-11T10:46:32","modified_gmt":"2015-03-11T14:46:32","slug":"time-hour-code","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/time-hour-code\/","title":{"rendered":"Time for Hour of Code is here"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There has been a movement going on in Virginia Beach school this past week, students flocking to the computer lab in order to take part in one big event: The Hour of Code.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of students across the city have participated in The Hour of Code, which is a grassroots campaign organized by Code.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools.<\/p>\n<p>According to Code.org, the goal of The Hour of Code is to have tens of millions of students to try an Hour of Code during December 8-14, 2014, in celebration of Computer Science Education Week. More than 77,000 Hour of Code events have been planned worldwide, including several right here in Virginia Beach.<\/p>\n<p>Trantwood Elementary School and John B. Dey Elementary School expanded the Hour of Code activity for two weeks, and had all students (kindergarten through fifth-grade) participating in activities to build their computer coding competencies.<\/p>\n<p>See below for the variety of schools that took part in this online endeavor.
