She worked in the field for seven years before deciding to study elementary education.<\/p>\n<p>Ten years ago, she began her teaching career at Point O\u2019 View Elementary.<\/p>\n<p>While at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, Crunk said she had \u201ca moment of clarity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was happiest helping my son be creative,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She earned a visual arts credential and became White Oaks\u2019 art teacher in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Crunk said making a connection with students helps them become more confident.<\/p>\n<p>She enjoys the opportunity to allow them to creatively express themselves through a variety of enriching art experiences.<\/p>\n<p>This past spring they ventured into the school garden with clipboards to make observational drawings of nature.<\/p>\n<p>Crunk also created an \u201cart zoo\u201d within the classroom, challenging students to draw an array of special guests: \u00a0live animals, including a parakeet, tadpoles, a gecko, hamster and her family pet \u201cPiper.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14587\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14587\" style=\"width: 202px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Crunk6-scaled.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14587\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Crunk6-202x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"202\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Crunk6-202x300.jpeg 202w, https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Crunk6-689x1024.jpeg 689w, https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Crunk6-768x1142.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Crunk6-1033x1536.jpeg 1033w, https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Crunk6-1377x2048.jpeg 1377w, https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Crunk6-400x595.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Crunk6-scaled.jpeg 1721w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 202px) 100vw, 202px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14587\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The English Labrador &#8220;Piper&#8221; is a certified therapy dog and attends school daily with owner Amber Crunk. The White Oaks Elementary art teacher is a citywide finalist for &#8220;Teacher of the Year.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The English Labrador, a certified therapy dog, attends school daily and often provides extra comfort for students in need.<\/p>\n<p>A \u201cPiper Pass,\u201d may be earned to spend time with the pup.<\/p>\n<p>Crunk adapts her art lessons to all students, including those with extensive intervention needs, significant delays and some who need a little extra support in inclusion classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>Her new peer-to-peer art initiative pairs fifth graders with kindergarten and first grade special education students.
