Esther\u2019s entry won second place.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Plaza Middle student Remi Chakin transformed a mask into a dog named \u201cFetch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jazlyn Carrington\u2019s acrylic painting, titled \u201cYellow Moray,\u201d portrayed a moray eel and fish underwater, while Hailey Grabb\u2019s watercolor featured the word \u201chope\u201d swirled into clouds with a lighthouse in the foreground.<\/p>\n<p>Richmond resident Brenda Walker and family own a beach house on the North End. They rode their bikes down to the oceanfront and visited the student art pavilion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything was so awesome,\u201d Walker said. \u201cI love seeing art, especially by young people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She purchased a surfboard painted by Esther Gammille titled \u201cSwirls of Sunset.\u201d The Ocean Lakes High School student\u2019s entry won second place in the Artwork in Virginia Beach.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a beautiful piece with rays of sunshine beaming through,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The surfboard is now displayed in her beach home\u2019s front foyer.<\/p>\n<p>Angela Gonzales thanked Coastal Edge for allowing her to participate in the show. \u201cIt was an amazing opportunity for me as an art teacher to showcase my ceramic jewelry alongside other teaching artists and especially with student artists,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The North Landing Elementary art teacher applauded former student David Morales for his entry \u201cKing Neptune.\u201d The Kellam High senior, who was recently a student teacher at North Landing, placed first in the show\u2019s artwork division.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEncouraging teacher artists\u2019 participation shows the audience that art is a labor of love, we practice what we teach and that is can be a business,\u201d Gonzales said.<\/p>\n<p>Coastal Edge President Deepak Nachnani said it was an honor to work with remarkable VBCPS students and their dedicated teachers who shape future designers, artists and community leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Coastal Edge, we believe in celebrating self-expression and investing in the cultural pillars that shape our identity: art, fashion, music and action sports,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese students represent the future of creativity
