The Wynne family (Steve, Marge, Chris and Nicole) recently received a 2013 Superstar Award for their volunteer work in the Virginia Citizen Corps. Marge is a long-term substitute at Bayside Middle, Nicole is a sixth-grader at Independence Middle and Chris is a graduate of Bayside High School. Chris Wynne also received awards from the Virginia Beach Fire Department for emergency preparedness and leadership at Fire Explorer Post #343.

The Wynnes have extensive training in disaster preparedness including CPR, first aid, fire safety, light search and rescue, and even terrorism awareness. They have donated more than 2,250 hours to the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) during the last four years.

They received the award at the annual awards ceremony of the Virginia Beach Fire Department held recently at Landstown Middle School.
