Virginia Beach School Board appoints new chief of staff

In its meeting Tuesday, June 9, the Virginia Beach School Board appointed Marc A. Bergin chief of staff for the school division effective July 1.

His duties will include providing administrative oversight for school division operations; helping guide implementation of the Compass to 2020 strategic plan; and supporting organizational development, leadership development, succession planning and staffing priorities.

Bergin is currently the deputy superintendent of Moore County Schools, a position he has held since 2012. Before that, he was director of elementary education for five years in Chesterfield County Public Schools. He also has served as a principal in Augusta County Schools, Spotsylvania County Schools and Prince William County Schools. He began his career in education in 1990 as an elementary teacher in Indianapolis.
