The U.S. Green Building Council announced Virginia Beach’s Pupil Transportation Services Maintenance Facility Replacement achieved Platinum LEED Certification.
This is VBCPS’ first building to earn a platinum certification, and it is also the first building in the region to do so.
The 87,500 square foot building is the first facility of its type in Virginia to incorporate wind energy to the facility – four wind turbines are placed on the property. Additionally, 18,000 square feet of green roof, covered with native plants, helps to reduce storm water run-off and offer increased insulation and acoustical value to the building.
The Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council is committed to a prosperous and sustainable future for the nation through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings. The USGBC is made up of 80 local affiliates, more than 18,000 member companies and organizations and more than 167,000 LEED Professional Credential holders.
