Superintendent’s Estimate of Needs presented to School Board

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, Dr. Merrill presented the School Board with the Superintendent’s Estimate of Needs (SEON) for FY 2013-14. A brief summary of that presentation (as well as a link to the superintendent’s full presentation) is now posted on the Lowdown on Your School Dollars page on vbschools.com.

This summary examines how the superintendent recommends closing a $15.9 million funding shortfall for next fiscal year and also addresses a possible salary increase.

As a reminder, an operating budget for Virginia Beach City Public Schools will not be finalized until mid-May after City Council adopts a municipal budget that includes funding for schools. The Media and Communications Development staff will keep employees updated as the budget deliberation process continues.
