Superintendent releases post-entry plan, details work priorities for the division

After an extensive six-month listening and learning tour, Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence has released a robust post-entry plan that details his vision for Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Charting the Course for Every Student, Every Day: Dr. Aaron Spence’s Post-Entry Plan Report to the Community, provides a detailed look at the insights Spence has gained since joining VBCPS and identifies work priorities for the division under five key leverage points. These leverage points are:

  • High Quality Teaching and Learning –All VBCPS students will have access to a high-performing school and will graduate with the skills needed for career or college.
  • Talent Management – VBCPS will recruit, select, orient, deploy, develop and retain top talent in order to build strong relationships with students, parents and community members and to increase student achievement.
  • Student-Centered Culture – VBCPS will provide every student the opportunity to engage with his/her world in ways that ignite their curiosity and passion.
  • Culture of Respect – VBCPS will maintain an educational environment where students want to come learn, staff are eager to support students and parents want to send their children.
  • Community Engagement – VBCPS will continue its work with parents, businesses and community leaders to collaborate and improve the lives of Virginia Beach students.

“I am genuinely excited about what tomorrow holds for the thousands of children in our community,” Spence said in his report. “Moving forward, this post-entry plan and our strategic framework, Compass to 2020: Charting the Course, will provide direction for our school division over the next several years. I believe by working together, we can accomplish our hopes and dreams for our children.”

  1. All of these are valid points I look forward as a mother and teacher in this implementation. Teachers and students need to be respected and there are many ways VBCPS needs to work on this. The curriculum and climate is a great start, however technology, training, resources, and raises are also necessary.
