The VBCPS Department of Human Resources welcomed 469 new employees to the VBCPS “crew” in its Onboarding process this summer. The onboarding process consists of contract signing and new employee orientation sessions. The onboarding program and agenda has been refined each year since it was implemented in the summer of 2009 based upon the need and feedback of participants.

At least two times per week, new employees were presented with a videotaped welcome to Virginia Beach City Public Schools with an overview of Compass to 2015 and the vision and mission statements. Facilitators from the Department of Human Resources explained expectations for standards of conduct.
Participants also received information regarding annual employee mandatory training, professional learning opportunities, Employee Self Service, and how navigate the VBCPS Intranet. Human Resources staff members guided new employees through the signing of contract paperwork and presented the Employee Handbook. Representatives from the Office of Consolidated Benefits presented a comprehensive overview of available benefits for VBCPS employees, and Benefits packets were provided for employees.
According to feedback received from onboarding participants, HR staff and Onboarding team members were friendly, and their kindness was appreciated.
Please join us in welcoming our new “crewmates” aboard!
