Sprague selected to attend national math and science teaching academy

Linkhorn Park Elementary School’s Aubrey Sprague has been selected by the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics (NCTM) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) to attend the 2014 Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy.

According to the NCTM and NSTA, Sprague is one of just 150 teachers selected from more than 1,100 applicants nationwide to take part in this week-long summer academy. While in attendance, Sprague will build expertise in math and science content, meet with other teachers and work toward building more meaningful student learning experiences.

The academy began in 2005 through through a partnership between Phil and Amy Mickelson, ExxonMobil and developed in conjunction with NSTA and Math Solutions. Since its launch, more than 4,000 teachers have attended impacting nearly 300,000 students nationwide.

“Amy and I are extremely proud of this Academy milestone, and one of the highlights of our summer is visiting with and seeing first-hand the impact this program has made on teachers across the country,” PGA golfer Phil Mickelson said in a NSTA statement. “We know interest in STEM subjects start at an early age, and we’re committed to training teachers to ignite a lifelong learning for these important subjects.”
