Ocean Lakes High School baseball coach Gary Spedden has been named the National Federation of State High School (NFHS) Coaches Association 2013 Mideast Sectional Coach of the Year. The NFHS Mideast section includes Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
According to the NFHS website, the organization has been recognizing coaches through an awards program since 1982 and honors coaches in the top 10 girls sports and top 10 boys sports, according to participation numbers, and one additional sport not listed in the top 10.
To be considered for this honor, Spedden was evaluated on a number of variables, including his coach’s his involvement with other school and community activities and programs as well as his personal coaching philosophy.
In addition to the recognition he has earned on the field, Spedden also was named the 2015 Teacher of the Year at Ocean Lakes.
