Sessoms earns James Mullins Leadership Award

Barbara Sessoms is the recipient of the the James Mullins Leadership Award for 2012-13.

For the past five years as principal of W. T. Cooke Elementary School, Sessoms has embraced language and literacy learning.  She strongly advocates achieving teaching endorsements in new and differentiated language arts strategies by supporting and encouraging participation in school, city, state and national conferences, learning walks, in-services, collaborations and workshops.

According to the Virginia Beach Reading Council, not only is Sessoms a “magician” in the allocation of funds for professional speakers and programs but she also mirrors the importance of literacy instruction by being in attendance herself and fostering the sharing and implementation of new ideas.
