Linkhorn Park knows how to look out for one of their own.
Andrew Brown, a fourth-grade teacher at Linkhorn Elementary School, is currently fighting cancer. To help support the Brown family, the school has a “jeans day” every Wednesday, where staff pay $2 or more to wear jeans as well as either the color blue or brown. The school staff has also made shirts with Team AZB (his initals) on the front and a volleyball that says “strike out cancer” because Brown is a volleyball enthusiast.

In addition, the school dedicated its recent Student/Faculty basketball game to Brown, with part of the proceeds from the game going to support him and his family.

Before working at Linkhorn, Brown taught at Pembroke Elementary, where his wife, Stephanie, is still the music teacher. Also keeping it in the family, his sister, Gina Spencer, teaches first grade at Pembroke.
To help support Brown’s return to good health and send some positive thoughts Brown’s way, Pembroke’s staff bought the AZB t-shirts and assembled for photographs.

Feel better soon, Mr. Brown!

Awesome! We really miss Andrew!
I meet Andrew’s sister in 1989 when we began teaching together at Green Run Elementary and I watched Andrew grow up from afar as he lived up north during most of his childhood. Gina Spencer is an amazing person and teacher and it is no surprise that Andrew has followed in her footsteps. I am honored to have not only to have worked with Gina Spencer but to be able to call her a friend. Therefore it is no surprise that both she and her brother have such a huge support system as Andrew faces this latest challenge. Thank you for demonstrating that we support not only our students but our fellow co-workers too!!
The article failed to mention that Andrew taught at Bettie F. Williams where I had the pleasure of meeting him! He is such a great guy, super personality, wonderful teacher, and friend. He also makes a great “floating head” for the morning news show weather reporter!!!The kids loved him and he was missed when he went to Linkhorn. I actually worked with his sister at Green Run Elementary School before meeting Andrew at Williams. What a small world! Positive thoughts and healthy vibes sent his way!!! He has more support than he will ever realize!
I have had the pleasure of teaching in Andrew’s classroom at Linkhorn. He is a very dedicated teacher and his students respect him. Andrew, we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.Yvonne Gray
