Independence Middle School boys’ basketball coach, Leon Hunt, recently won the gold medal for the long jump event at the Central American and Caribbean University Games in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Hunt represented the Virgin Islands, as he was born in St. Croix and lived in the Caribbean until the age of 12. Hunt has participated in track and field since he was in middle school, and went on to be an All-American at Virginia State University.
After college, in 2008, Hunt began competing for the U. S. Virgin Islands and has qualified for the Caribbean Olympic Team, World’s Championship Team, and Pan-American Team.
