It was a busy weekend for Bayside Middle School with last week’s Shamrock races.
The student team of Bayside runners achieved their goal of finishing the 8k race on Saturday with their teachers out on the course and at the finish to cheer them on.
Then, seventh-grade math teacher Howie Hodapp, who organized the running team, returned Sunday and ran the 26-mile marathon.
Hodapp had organized a runners group in January to train students for the event and pass along an interest in the sport. Every Tuesday and Wednesday after school they met to condition and run. Their effort earned them 25 free entries into the Shamrock 8K.
Hodapp placed 14th overall in the Shamrock Marathon and second for Hampton Roads contestants held Sunday, March 22.
