The school division’s computer resource specialists (CRS) have been working with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) this year for Instructional Coaching.
Over the summer, all CRSs participated in a one-day workshop with ISTE that focused on the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS), which are ISTE’s standards for “learning, teaching and leading in the digital age.” The training reinforced these standards for coaches as well as rethinking how to design NETS learning activities and measure their effectiveness.
ISTE trained CRSs to prepare them to work with faculty teams throughout VBCPS to embed the NETS across the curriculum. Each participant was tasked to identify an individual action plan/project goal to take their coaching to the next level. These learning outcomes included inspiring the excitement of coaching, understand the NETS for coaching, practicing coaching scenarios and role-playing and developing individual action plans in moving forward.
Additionally, ISTE faculty facilitates a one-hour virtual webinar once a month for participants to continue their learning and practice of the NETS for coaches. Participants will receive guidance, advice and feedback on their project goal. Through this experience, participants can work collaboratively on issues critical to the school.
