The Center for Teacher Leadership (CTL) coordinated a back-to-school reception for the division’s National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs). They gathered at Salem High School to network as a community and participate in the first annual group photo. VBCPS is proud to have 134 National Board Certified Teachers. CTL’s teacher leaders guide the highly successful support program for those teachers working to achieve certification. This year’s cohort begins their journey at the first Saturday seminar Oct. 4. Almost 70 of the 134 National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) in Virginia Beach City Public Schools got together for this group shot.
National Board Certification, offered by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, recognizes accomplish teaching. Known simply as National Board, it was formed in 1987 to advance the quality of teaching and learning by developing professional standards for accomplished teaching, creating a voluntary system to certify teachers who meet those standards and integrating Board-certified teachers into educational reform efforts.
Congratulations to all our NBCTs!
