Landstown Elementary School’s art teacher, Louis Castiglioni, has developed a creative and motivational project that encourages his students to engage with art outside of the classroom. It is called “Sketchbook Homework.”
Each week Castiglioni and a special guest, including students, teachers and local artists, create a video demonstrating a different drawing.
Castiglioni chose to use sketchbooks because they are a big part of an artist’s repertoire. A place where creative problem solving takes place. Students can view the videos on Youtube or Castiglioni’s website. Students who complete the work receive beads to go on their art bracelet. Beads are awarded for completeness, timeliness, and going “above and beyond.”
