Students in Corey Wiles’ seventh-grade class have the benefit of some additional instruction.
Richard Harris is a financial planner, and for the past six years has found time to visit Wiles’ classes to help cover a number of topics. For example, last month, when the class was studying positive and negative integers, Harris used his financial planning expertise to talk to students about differentiating between wants versus needs as well as budgeting money.

While such volunteerism is always welcomed, Harris does have one ulterior motive: Wiles is his daughter.
For Wiles, having her father come and work with her students is not only a treat for her, but for her class as well. She noted that students who had met her father in previous years look forward to seeing him again.
“When they saw him they smiled and said, ‘There he is, Mr. Richard Harris,’”Wiles said. “He made a personal connection with each student in the class. I am proud to have a dad that is willing to be so generous with is time, experiences and knowledge.”
