Bravo to VBCPS staff earning new academic and professional achievements

Congratulations to VBCPS staff who have earned new licenses, degrees and certifications this year:

-Dr. Veleka Gatling, executive director of differentiated academic programs and professional learning, has received National Certification as a Principal Mentor through National Association of Elementary School Principals.

-Katherine R. Everett, principal of Lynnhaven Elementary School, has received National Certification as a Principal Mentor through the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

– Frank W. Cox High School Choral Director and Visual and Performing Arts Chairman Cyndy Forbes  was recently awarded a Lifetime PTA Membership for her many years of support to PTA functions at the school.

-Independence Middle School teacher Natalie Lebo has been selected to serve on the 2013 VDOE VGLA Range Finding Committee (Content Specific History: Virginia Studies, U.S. History I & II, and Civic & Economics).

-Landstown High School marketing teacher Vernon King has been selected to serve on the curriculum development committee for the 2013 Marketing Cluster Internet Marketing (8125) by the State Department of Education.

-Diane Stewart, transportation area supervisor, has completed the National Association for Pupil Transportation ( NAPT) Special Needs Transportation (SNT) Training Endorsement Program. She is one of the seventy-three NAPT members in the nation to complete this program. The NAPT Special Needs Transportation training program provides numerous opportunities for transportation personnel serving students with disabilities to access educational opportunities and receive national recognition.

-Jennifer Moller, from Linkhorn Park Elementary, earned her National Board Certification.

-Suzanne Buhner, from Old Donation Center, earned her National Board Certification.

-Chris Smead, from Bayside High School, earned his National Board Certification.

-Lisa Ebert, from Bayside High School, earned her National Board Certification.

-Latisha Burks, from Bayside High School, earned her National Board Certification.

-Meg Manugo, from Bayside High School, earned her National Board Certification.

-Kasey Sabo, from the Special Education Annex, earned a RESNA certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification. The ATP certification recognizes demonstrated competence in analyzing the needs of consumers with disabilities, assisting in the selection of appropriate assistive technology for consumer’s needs and providing training in the use of the selected device(s).

-Gail Cuthbertson, from the Special Education Annex, earned a RESNA certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification.

-Myra Flint, from the Special Education Annex, earned a RESNA certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification.

-Diana Quinn, from the Special Education Annex, earned a RESNA certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification.

-James Barger, from Landstown High School, was selected to serve on the curriculum development committee for the 2013 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Cluster Electronics Systems III.

-Monet Baker, from Landstown High School, earned her National Board Certification.

-Brent Horner, from Landstown High School, earned his National Board Certification.

-Jennifer Morris, from Landstown High School, earned her National Board Certification.

-Sarah Nedved, from Renaissance Academy, is currently participating in the Virginia Initiative for Science Teaching & Achievement (VISTA) Teacher Program. As part of this program, she recently presented information regarding student-centered, inquiry-based science teaching at the annual Virginia Association Science Teachers (VAST).

-David Decant, Janice Deur, Heather Lewis, Anna Rille and Erin Tokajer, from the Special Education Annex, earned a RESNA certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification. The ATP certification recognizes demonstrated competence in analyzing the needs of consumers with disabilities, assisting in the selection of appropriate assistive technology for consumer’s needs and providing training in the use of the selected device(s).

-Carol Koceja, Tracy Dobrinsky and Cindy Swinarsky from the Special Education Annex, earned a RESNA certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification. The ATP certification recognizes demonstrated competence in analyzing the needs of consumers with disabilities, assisting in the selection of appropriate assistive technology for consumer’s needs and providing training in the use of the selected device(s).

-Alex Bergren, principal of Princess Anne Middle School, has earned his Doctorate of Education from George Washington University.
