Bayside’s BBQ cookoff

The best BBQ at Bayside Middle was determined recently in a tasty competition after school. The C-Straight club at Bayside Middle School held a BBQ competition for parents and mentors.  Five staff members entered their best versions of BBQ, and students voted for their favorite after sampling all entries.  Teen Living teacher Shonnika Norman won the title of “Best BBQ at Bayside.”

Rob Lanz, school counselor and sponsor of the C-Straight Program, said the event was an opportunity to bring a large number of people together and share a meal in a unique way.  Also, before the BBQ cook off, there were two break-out sessions.  The sixth grade students worked from the 7 Habits curriculum and played “A Minute To Win” It activities while the seventh and eighth grade students attended a presentation conducted by AVID and BMAC (Bayside Minority Achievement Club) students that talked about high school programs and the importance of being connected to a club or sport at the high school level.
