ATC teacher travels to Europe for international competition

Lee Troxell, digital design instructor and ATC SkillsUSA lead advisor, traveled to Leipzig, Germany this summer to serve as the United States Expert in Graphic Design at the WorldSkills International competition.

It’s the second such trip for Troxell: Last year, he traveled to Brazil, also representing the United States.

Troxell was selected to train and accompany the United States Graphic Design Competitor to the WorldSkills International Competition. WorldSkills International promotes vocational education and training in 65 countries worldwide, and provides a unique means of exchange and comparison of world-class competency standards in the industrial trades and service sectors of the global economy. At the competition, more than 1,000 young professionals from more than 50 countries and regions competed in 46 different skill sets.

“This was an amazing opportunity learn about the international field of graphic design, and to inspire and inform our own students here in Virginia Beach,” Troxell said. “I worked with the top educators and industry contacts from over 25 different countries in the world of Graphic Design.  While in Leipzig, I was able to create new projects and learn new techniques for my students in the U.S.  I am very honored to be able to represent VBCPS, Virginia Beach and the U.S. on the world stage.”

The competition was held in Leipzig, Germany at the Leipziger Messe, from July 2-7. More than 25 different countries, such as India, Kuwait, Canada, Australia, participated in the Graphic Design Technology competition. The four-day long competition covered four different skill categories in advertising and digital design field. More than 150,000 officials, visitors and participants experienced one of the largest student trade and industry competitions in the world.
