Virginia Beach City Public Schools was recently honored by the Virginia Municipal League for its successful participation in the VML Insurance Programs (VMLIP) Where the Rubber Meets the Road campaign, which works to decrease losses related to vehicle incidents.
As part of the campaign, the VMLIP provides participants with access, funding and the resources to attend the National Safety Council’s Defensive Driver’s two-day instructor training class. In return, participants were tasked with training 90 percent of their drivers with the defensive driving instruction within the first year or returning from the class.

VBCPS was one of 33 organizations in the state, and one of only six governmental entities in the region, to meet the VMLIP goal.
Since the campaign launched, the VMLIP has reported a 22 percent reduction in the number of claims and a 16 percent reduction in the overall costs of automobile liability claims among those who participated.
