VBCPS celebrates Reading Month in January, and this past month staff from across the division made books and reading come to life. Check out some of the highlights:
“Be afraid, Red!” threatened Ana McConnel, Centerville Elementary’s second grade teacher, as Big Bad Wolf to Gerald Scales, art teacher, aka Red Riding Hood.Where’s Waldo? He was definitely sighted at Centerville Elementary as fourth grade teacher Ashley Moore and fifth grade teacher Lauren Taggart dressed up for Book Character Day during Reading Month.Argh! Pirates invaded Centerville’s office when Janie Berges, Jan Dollan, and Lisa Thomas channeled the villains of Peter Pan .Third grade teacher Amanda Wethington, from Centerville Elementary, shared the wisdom and beauty of goddess Athena from Greek mythology.Dr. Seuss would have smiled at Centerville’s Greg Tidd and Lori Rhodes as his Thing 1 and Thing 2.The Queen of Hearts ruled the hallways as Centerville First Grade Teacher Joan Shiflet paraded in her finery. The staff and students at Cooke Elementary dressed as their favorite characters from a book on January 16, 2013. This was one of many events and activities to promote reading during the month of January.Teachers are pictured dressed as their favorite characters from a book.Lynnhaven Elementary held a parade that featured teachers and students dressed up as several favorite storybook characters. Teachers portraying Mother Goose, Little Red Riding Hood, The Cat in the Hat, and other lovable reading stars joined Principal Katherine Everett, dressed as the Lynnhaven Lion, in leading students in the parade to promote literacy.The Norfolk Admirals mascot, Salty, and Mr. Douglas Daughtry, Principal, Kempsville Meadows Elementary School high five for Reading Month!Kempsville Meadows Elementary School teachers really know how to celebrate reading! Amy Wise, Counselor, Deanna Moretz, LMS, Bill Hawley, CRS, Christine Goodman, Reading Specialist, Tara Brewer, Assistant Principal, Sharon Cronin, LMA, Maysie Alder, Music Teacher, and Danielle Storme, GRT promote reading by dressing up as book characters “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”Mrs. Linda Seybold, Office Associate, has been delivering special packages of books through Providence’s Pioneer Pony Express Service. Our Pioneer students traveled to the Wild West” as part of Reading Month.Windsor Oaks Elementary Data Support Specialist, Joe Skiles, reads and then sings books to students during Reading Month.The staff at Woodstock Elementary recently celebrated Reading Month by dressing the part at their Family Literacy Night event. Here, Reading team members Trish Wood, Denise Maples, Cyndi Hatt, Barbara Crunkleton, and Karen Page portrayed characters from The Wizard of Oz.Tell your friends!Follow us!
