Beginning in fall 2017, VBCPS and the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia are teaming up to roll out a new way to prepare and retain high quality teachers.
The Curry Teaching Fellowship bridges the gap between teaching preparation at the university and teacher induction into our school division. VBCPS will hire Curry teaching fellows for a yearlong residency in our critical needs areas, such as special education, secondary math, science and technology.
The residency will combine the traditional fall student-teaching semester with instructional support roles and co-teaching opportunities in the spring. In addition, the Curry fellows will collaborate with specially trained mentor teachers throughout the school year. Should Curry fellows commit to VBCPS for at least the first three years of their teaching careers, they will receive two additional years of individualized job coaching and classroom support after graduation.
