As spring break approaches, the school division’s Beach Bags program wants to ensure that every child in need has enough to eat over the extended school break. Volunteers and community partners are needed to pack more than 900 bags of food in one evening – Tuesday, March 31, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Corporate Landing Middle School.
Each Beach Bag includes a mixture of shelf-stable meals and healthy snacks for students who might otherwise go hungry over weekends and during school breaks. The program is supported by food donations and monetary contributions from community members, school groups, families, organizations and businesses.
At a similar packing event in December before the school division’s two-week winter break, nearly 100 volunteers worked in teams to pack and box 710 Beach Bags in less than one hour. Volunteers also donated $1,200 worth of food.
If you can help March 31, sign up on the school division’s Get Connected online volunteer system. Packing will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Corporate Landing Middle School’s cafeteria (1597 Corporate Landing Parkway).
