It’s been a very patriotic year for the school division. Recently, there have been celebrations for two staff members who have become United States citizens.

Milena Corbin, a special education assistant at Bayside Elementary School, came to the United States from more than 20 years ago. She lives in Virginia Beach with her husband and two sons and just celebrated her swearing-in ceremony.

Over at Seatack Elementary An Achievable Dream Academy, Maha AlMathedy celebrated her citizenship as well. AlMathedy came to America in 2009 from Baghdad with her daughters Sama and Ghena. The Seatack staff surprised Maha with a small reception, where they all dressed in red, white and blue to celebrate.
