These awards are given to honor individual schools for their efforts in promoting sustainability initiatives. Specifically, these schools had to have participated in at least three initiatives, including having a cell phone recycling program, an active environmental club, an outdoor teaching garden, a school policy which defaults printers to two-sided printing, or been designated a Pearl School or River Star School. Schools also could provide examples of how sustainability is integrated into the curriculum.
