It’s amazing what can happen in a year.
The 2013-2014 school year has proven to be a busy year for the Office of Distribution Services – not the least of which was its new name change. Formerly known as Supply Services, the staff took time on July 1 to unveil its new office name and new uniforms.

It was a brief respite for the staff.
In addition to the normal day to day activities of managing the division’s textbooks, operating pony routes, delivering supplies, loaning equipment, etc., there is always a need to move something.
That need has been greatly increased this year.
Things started out July 2013, by relocating the Office of Gifted Testing from the School Administration Building to the Plaza Annex. Next on the list was moving the “old” Kellam High School into the newly completed Kellam High School, and the challenge of moving them in with the least amount of disruption to both Distribution Services’ core functions as well as Kellam’s instructional process. By working closely with other departments in the school division, the move was successfully completed in January.

With the Kellam relocation completed, the “old” Kellam site on Holland Road was quickly repaired, cleaned and readied for their new occupant, Princess Anne Middle School (PAMS). At the beginning of March, materials were being placed in PAMS’s new home for an official move-in date of April 21.
By the end of May, plans are in place to relocate the Central Music Library from the Plaza Annex to their new storage facility. But, next in the process of moving are Old Donation Center (ODC) and Kemps Landing Magnet School (KLMS) to the former Princess Anne Middle building. This project will begin with some reconfiguration of the building to accommodate ODC and KLMS and their programs. Boxes and materials from both schools began being relocated in May. Once the Kemps Landing move is completed, staff will quickly follow to make room for Bayside Middle’s sixth grade campus. Furniture and materials will be moved from Bayside Middle to the former Kemps Landing in time for the start of school.
Many employees from numerous departments have come together as a team to accomplish these moves and help create the best learning environment possible for the students of Virginia Beach City Public Schools.
