Landstown Middle School seventh grader Lena Rice donned a poodle skirt as her class examined patterns of economic change in the 1950s. Second graders at Newtown Elementary School helped riase the walls for a greenhouse that was donated by Seatack Elementary School. Second grade students from College Park Elementary tour Norfolk State University as part of their goal setting and life development discussions. Dey Elementary School PE teacher Scott Kamholtz started a weekly Wednesday workout for the teachers after school. Girls Who Code from Newtown Elementary School received an Excellent in the Level I Catagory of Visual Coding at the 34th Annual WHRO Great Computer Challenge. Radford University sponsored a Cyber hacking competition nationwide called RUSecure, a Capture the Flag(CTF) event. The ATC team of Power Sharks, dual-enrolled students with Tidewater Community College placed 2nd overall. Each team member was offered a $1,500.00 scholarship to attend Radford University. April Sanders, Instructional Specialist at College Park Elementary, attended the XR Super School Project with Pharrell Williams. Cox High School’s Senior Sophie Bement and Art teacher Jessica VanVeenhuyzen stand next to Bement’s winning sculpture at the Holocaust Commission Remeberance at Temple Israel. ODS students in the ECO Friend Club visited Fort Story to work in the field with their partners. They were learning in the field with environmental team members at Fort Story / Little Creek base throughout the course of their oyster project this year. The Ocean Lakes Elementary School news crew visited WVEC in Norfolk for a tour. Kingston Elementary School fourth grader Graham Gift won a PTA auction item that gave him the chance to shadow Kingston Cafeteria Manager Stacey Truman. Each year, the Technical and Career Education Center (Tech Center) students successfully pass a variety of Workplace Credential testing including the State of Virginia Workplace Readiness Credential (WRS). The Dental Assisting I course celebrating their 100% pass rate on the April State of Virginia Workplace Readiness Skills test. Providence Pioneers participated in Field Day, where Jonathan Teeling completed the Hippity Hop Relay race. Glenwood Elementary School Kindergarteners visited Hunt Club Farm to explore animal and plant habitats. Green Run Elementary PE teacher Howie Conger shows off the field that he set up for field day. Social Studies teacher Adam Swindell took sixth graders from Lynnhaven Middle to the Appomattox Court House New Castle Elementary’s 4th and 5th grade chorus sang the National Anthem at Sunday’s Tides baseball game.
