Rosemont Elementary School fourth-grader Janylah Brown shared a laugh with Head Custodian Mr. Harper after lunch. Salem Elementary School’s Olivia McCarthy participated in the Drop Everything and Read with your PJ’s event, in honor of Reading Month. Dr. Aaron Spence visited Windsor Woods Elementary School to read to Michelle Rousselow’s fourth-grade class. Princess Anne Middle School cheerleaders celebrated their second place win at the District Cheer Competition. Alexis Osipovs, ATC Advanced Software and Game Development student, was selected as the 2019 Virginia Affiliate Honorable Mention of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) for her outstanding leadership and exceptional academic history. Newtown Elementary School students Sophia Pereyra and Brittani Melvin investigated a worm eating an apple. Arrowhead preschoolers from Mrs. Mariana Crocker’s and Mrs. Ruth Levy’s class chose KIND as their #oneword for this year. Phillipe Rivera, an Auto Body II student from the Tech Center, utilizes the skills he learned towards an internship at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet in Norfolk. Kingston Elementary School students from Jenny Stepp’s kindergarten class dressed up for career day. VA Army National Guard Career Counselor and Recruiter Staff Sergeant Shawn Bartz visited the Culinary Arts Class at Cox High School to give a ‘Career Direction’ presentation. Students got to try MREs or Meals Ready to Eat. Preschoolers at Diamond Springs Elementary enjoyed a visit from MOCA representative Katherine Lysik. The kindergarten team at Malibu Elementary School dressed up as crayons from the book ”The Day The Crayons Quit” in honor of Reading Month. Arrowhead Elementary School kindergarten students Bentley Miller, McKenzie Kelly and Mekhia Smith-McGee snuggled up with Library Bear to look at their books. Mutts with a Mission visited Old Donation School. The non-profit provides service dogs for veterans and wounded warriors. Jake Couillard, a third-grader at Corporate Landing Elementary School, plans to read every Virginia Readers’ Choice book on this year’s list. Ari Lamb and Naomi Smith from Sara Chiaverotti’s kindergarten class enjoyed some good books in the Kingston Library. Parents read to students during Reading Month at Salem Elementary School. Rosemont Elementary fourth-graders Izion Peters, Malia Altidor, and Nariyah Watts won the Be-Kind-Online Bitmoji Contest. Providence Elementary School fifth-grader Mitch Lyon showed off his creative thinking by dressing up as Timmy Meeker from the book “My Brother Sam is Dead.” Claire Scully and Addie Savoie dressed up as Mother Goose and Laura Ingalls Wilder for Character Dress-up Day at Providence Elementary School.
