Malibu Elementary School first-graders get free books every month thanks to $9 donations. Green Run High School DECA members competed at the District Leadership Conference at Virginia Wesleyan. Saniyah Phillips, Kiara Perez and Teyah Novosel won first place overall, and Ariana Parnell won second place overall. These stallions will represent GRHS at the State Leadership Conference in March. Kempsville High School students earned 146 medals at the DECA District Leadership Conference. Seventh-grader Evan Skroch was the winner of Old Donation School’s Spelling Bee. Brookwood Elementary School students Rozanne Asrturas and Grace Perez worked on sequencing with holiday songs. Lynnhaven Elementary School’s Kaitlyn Sharlow and Kaylee Rickman use Ozobots to tell a story. First-grade teacher Julie Finucan was honored as Arrowhead Elementary’s Teacher of the Year. Old Donation School students were selected for their outstanding kindness and given a shirt to match the staff’s “honor” shirt. Nicole Gregory was named Bayside Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year. Partner’s in Education at Grace Bible Church supplied clothing, toys and school supplies for students at Brookwood Elementary School. Glenwood Elementary School students use a makerspace to practice simple machine skills. At Diamond Springs Elementary School, Stacy Lupia was named Teacher of the Year, and Jennifer Hughes and Becca Carter were named Distinguished Educators of the Year. It’s Reading Month at Malibu Elementary School. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 392 and its Auxiliary built a Little Free Library and bench for Ocean Lakes Elementary School.
