School division honors NBCTs

It was an evening filled with hugs, smiles and hearty applause as principals, colleagues, division administrators and family members attended a reception to celebrate the school division’s newest 24 National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) as well as the 10 staff members who renewed their certification. The event was held March 20 at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center and hosted by the Office of Professional Growth and Innovation, which offers numerous supports to teachers working on earning certification.

“This is the largest number that we have had since I’ve been here and I’m really excited about that,” Superintendent Aaron Spence shared as he addressed attendees. “You understand the value of inquiry, the value of deep reflection, what great pedagogy looks like and how that has an impact on the students in our classrooms.”

He then challenged NBCTS to “transfer your learning to others, not just about becoming NBCTs, but to be more reflective about the work and have a deeper sense of the day-to-day things that we do in our classrooms and how that make a difference for children.”
