‘Great Teachers’ recognized at Corporate Landing Middle

Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence visited Corporate Landing Middle Nov. 17 to surprise three teachers as part of the Great Dreams Need Great Teachers campaign.

Two parents sent emails to GreatTeachers@vbschools.com to share how Mary Letson, music/vocal teacher, has made a difference in the lives of their children.

“When we tried to get our son to try some other electives this year, just for the experience,” wrote one parent, “he got upset and said music was his outlet for his feelings and he feels good performing onstage. This year he continues to rave about Ms. Letson’s kindness and ability to bring out emotion and music in him that he didn’t know he was capable of.”

A second parent wrote: “I could not ever ask for a more exceptional teacher. She recognizes what these children have to offer and she challenges them and she actually teaches them. My son has learned a lifetime of lessons from her.”

Of the teaching team of Kristin Martinolich, math teacher, and Jennifer Pendleton, special education teacher, a parent wrote, “They love all their students and you can see they truly want the best for them.”

She continued, “Both of these teachers have gone out of their way to stay after school with [my son] and help him one-on-one as well as take the time to teach me what they are doing so I can help him at home.”

The parent’s complete letter about Martnolich and Pendleton is available on the Great Dreams Need Great Teachers website.

Thanks to campaign sponsors, Beach Cinema Alehouse and Pinboy’s at the Beach, all three teachers received either free movie passes or free bowling passes.
