Indian Lakes Elementary School teachers were not surprised to see Dr. Spence at their afterschool staff meeting. He had just spent an hour visiting their classrooms on a learning walk and took a moment to thank them for being so welcoming. After sharing a few observations, he also shared a big announcement: He was there to deliver Wednesday’s Great Dreams Need Great Teachers giveaway!
Chief Schools Officer Rashard Wright carried in a large wrapped box as Spence explained that the online random number generator used to select this week’s giveaway winners pulled a number that matched the name of an Indian Lakes teacher.
“And the winner is,” said Spence, building suspense and taking his time to open a sealed envelope.
“La La Land!” exclaimed several teachers in the audience.
“Cyndi Garduque!” Spence announced.
The shocked Indian Lakes special education teacher unwrapped the gift, a 40″ full HD LED flat screen TV, in front of her colleagues. Also in the “audience” were any viewers watching the announcement on live on Facebook.

Erin Vickrey is going to have big news for her young son when she gets home. The Bayside Middle School math specialist said her son likes to claim various TVs in their house as his own. “This is my TV, mommy,” he tells her.
Just wait until Vickrey shows him the 40″ flat screen TV she received as part of this week’s Great Dreams Need Great Teachers surprise giveaways and tells him she has big, brand new TV of her own.
Dr. Spence surprised Vickrey during a Bayside administrative team meeting May 4. Vickrey told Spence that, earlier in the morning, she had watched the Facebook Live video from Wednesday’s giveaway at Indian Lakes Elementary’s staff meeting and said she hoped someone at Bayside would be surprised. She got her wish!
Though staff members have been selected at random for the giveaways, Bayside Principal Paula Johnson said Vickrey is most deserving of the Great Dreams Need Great Teachers gift. “She’s the best math specialist in the division!”

The small poster on the front door of Kristen Shows’ portable at Princess Anne High School reminds students: “Don’t forget to be awesome.”
An awesome surprise is what the social studies teacher received Friday May 5 when Dr. Spence walked through that front door with a large wrapped box from the Great Dreams Need Great Teachers campaign.
He explained to Shows and her students that her name was randomly-selected to receive a Great Dreams Need Great Teachers surprise giveaway. Shows unwrapped the paper to reveal a 40″ full HD LED flat screen TV while students and staff filmed and photographed the moment with their phones.
Shows was the final recipient of the week’s worth of Great Dreams Need Great Teachers giveaways during the division’s celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week. The flat screen TVs each teacher received from the Great Dreams Need Great Teachers campaign were supported in part by Best Buy Landstown.
