“Make Your Mark” is what Kingston Elementary School staff will be encouraging students to do this year.
Kingston’s administrators brought the theme to life for teachers by challenging them to make their own mark with activities in the school’s new makerspace lab and with a scavenger hunt based on focus initiatives for the school year.
The school’s makerspace will serve as an open and collaborative place where learners will work on authentic and meaningful projects using traditional and technological tools. Projects may come from classwork, class problem boards or a personal idea. The central purpose of the makerspace is to help students develop critical 21st century skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), as well as the maker mindset of creating something original and innovative.
Kingston is planning to host seven different book clubs for staff and parents this year that are focused on creativity, innovation, mindset and supporting students to make their mark.
