The Office of Facilities Planning and Construction in partnership with Mike Ross, from HBA Architects, has produced “A Furniture Idea Book For 21st Century Learning Environments.” The book, which can be downloaded here, is meant to serve as a resource for secondary schools when administrators are looking to purchase furniture and equipment.
“Our intent is to provide anyone in the division who has the responsibility for purchasing replacement or new furniture to have a resource available to provide some guidance as to what we’re doing in our newer buildings,” said Tony Arnold, director of Facilities Planning and Construction. “The typical classroom and lab layouts you see in this book can be utilized in our older buildings and can improve the learning environment without renovating the physical space.”
The pricing in the book reflects 2015 unit costs, and schools are not limited to the manufacturers listed in the book.
In 2016, the team will produce a similar idea book for elementary schools, which will be based on purchasing research and efforts made for the new Kemps Landing Old Donation School building.
