The more things change, the more they stay the same – even when it comes to grading.
While the school division has recently worked to provide more consistent grading practices, the outcome of this effort only reinforced policies and practices that have been mainstays of the division’s grading guidelines for decades.
For example:
- Teachers have always had the discretion to assign zeros
- Teachers have always been able to accept late work or not.
- Teachers have always been able to count a 50 as a minimum grade or not.
These practices are not new, but they were solidified by teachers throughout the division when they elected to use them as a grade level/subject area in their schools.
