Fact: No, lottery funding is not allocated to school facilities.
Prior to the recession, the school division used to receive approximately $12-$15 million each year for capital improvements. After 2007, the division stopped receiving lottery funding for school construction. In addition, capital improvement funding also dropped. As a result, several schools that were scheduled for replacement were pushed back. Those schools are: Princess Anne High, Kempsville High, Kempsville Middle, Bettie F. Williams Elementary, Princess Anne Elementary and First Colonial High.
