FACT: Travel for employees is less than .14 of a percent of the entire school budget.
VBCPS is dedicated to supporting the professional growth and development of its employees. As such, staff members are encouraged to look for opportunities to learn innovative strategies and best practices to bring back to the division. Each year, the school division allocates a portion of the budget for professional travel, which is comparable with divisions and organizations of similar size as the division. For the past four years, VBCPS has yet to meet that allocation. In addition, for 2016-17, the school division spent less on travel than in the three years prior. That could be attributed to the division’s competitive approach to grant funding for professional growth. More and more, the division is finding grants that include allowances for professional travel.
