{"id":8688,"date":"2019-02-14T16:07:06","date_gmt":"2019-02-14T21:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/?p=8688"},"modified":"2019-02-18T16:28:58","modified_gmt":"2019-02-18T21:28:58","slug":"larkspur-middle-student-surprises-teacher-with-551-valentines-of-hope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/larkspur-middle-student-surprises-teacher-with-551-valentines-of-hope\/","title":{"rendered":"Larkspur Middle student surprises teacher with 551 valentines of hope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The students gathered together for an important message on citizenship and the significant roles they play in keeping Larkspur Middle a safe and welcoming school campus.<\/p>\n<p>At least that is what sixth-grade teacher Jackie Wilson thought they were there for.<\/p>\n<p>In reality, the auditorium\u2019s 100-plus students and teachers had convened for a special and heartwarming Valentine\u2019s Day surprise.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson has spent the better part of the school year battling breast cancer and will be on leave the rest of the year for more surgeries and radiation treatments.<\/p>\n<p>One of her students, Brycen Dildy, wanted to do something special for her, to remind her that she had a school full of people rooting for her in her cancer fight. He reached out to classmates and asked that they help make special cards to share with Wilson.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-1-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8682 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-1-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"alt=&quot;&quot;\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-1-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-1-1-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-1-1-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-1-1-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese cards are for you. I wanted to collect 365 cards just for you so that each card will make your day a brighter day,\u201d Dildy told Wilson. \u201cSo, when you read each card, it\u2019ll make you feel happy, feel good, have faith and have courage to fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Dildy did not just meet his goal; he exceeded it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd, I\u2019m still not finished,\u201d he said as the auditorium cheered. \u201cI collected more than 365; I collected 551 cards so this should last you a year and half.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two large boxes decorated with messages such as, \u201cHope,\u201d \u201cStrength,\u201d and \u201cSurvivor,\u201d held the hundreds of cards from students.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-2-1-e1550178242162.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8683 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-2-1-e1550178242162-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"alt=&quot;&quot;\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-2-1-e1550178242162-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-2-1-e1550178242162-200x300.jpg 200w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-2-1-e1550178242162-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-2-1-e1550178242162-400x600.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t just do this by myself,\u201d Dildy said, calling up Wilson\u2019s fellow core teachers and classmates. \u201cThe students on our team made these cards, Ms. Wilson, just for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a project that Brycen took upon himself to propose to all his teachers and to the administration,\u201d said Larkspur Principal Carey Manugo. \u201cIt was a very courageous, very gallant and valiant effort by Brycen to make sure this happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-3-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8684 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-3-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"alt=&quot;&quot;\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-3-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-3-1-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-3-1-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Photo-3-1-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Wilson, the touching gift was too much to comprehend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no words to explain,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s just awesome. It\u2019s just totally awesome that sixth-graders, 11-year-old children, have the kindness, the thought, the warmth, the love to be able to think of that and to make it happen.
