{"id":864,"date":"2013-07-10T13:39:03","date_gmt":"2013-07-10T13:39:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/?p=864"},"modified":"2013-07-11T20:09:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-11T20:09:00","slug":"vbcps-leads-vhsl-integrity-awards-six-vb-high-schools-earn-2012-13-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/vbcps-leads-vhsl-integrity-awards-six-vb-high-schools-earn-2012-13-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"VBCPS leads VHSL Integrity Awards; six VB high schools earn 2012-13 honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to the following six Virginia Beach high schools who earned the 2012-13 Claudia Dodson Virginia High School League (VHSL) Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award: Cox, Kempsville, Landstown, Princess Anne, Salem and Tallwood.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia Beach led the state with the most schools represented on this award list.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-five high schools across the Commonwealth were given the award from the VHSL, which recognizes schools that make sportsmanship a priority within the school and community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI consider this to be the Virginia High School League\u2019s most prestigious award,\u201d VHSL Executive Director Ken Tilley said in a press release.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s the only award that the entire school is graded on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the VHSL, there is no limit on the number of schools that might be recognized in a given year; selection is based on whether or not the school meets the criteria, which utilizes a self-assessment checklist of 50 points relating to administration, coaches, student-athletes, cheerleaders, performance groups, student support, parents and spectators.\u00a0 The total score is then adjusted by deducting points for student-athlete ejections, coach ejections and inappropriate behavior at state championship events.\u00a0 Using the adjusted score, a school must score 90 percent or better to qualify.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a complete listing of this year\u2019s award winners:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bethel High, Hampton (1st recognition)<\/li>\n<li>Booker T.
