Being a member of Windsor Oaks Elementary School\u2019s choir reinforced that love for music. But it was when he reached Plaza Middle School that one teacher really made a difference for this 2002 Princess Anne High School graduate that would shape not only his aspirations, but eventually lead him to win a 2018 Grammy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/119D2A85-458E-46B9-8733-CAC7BF2AD03B.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8160 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/119D2A85-458E-46B9-8733-CAC7BF2AD03B.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"433\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/119D2A85-458E-46B9-8733-CAC7BF2AD03B.jpeg 433w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/119D2A85-458E-46B9-8733-CAC7BF2AD03B-217x300.jpeg 217w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/119D2A85-458E-46B9-8733-CAC7BF2AD03B-400x554.jpeg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 433px) 100vw, 433px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lou Tarabick, whom I still talk to pretty regularly, got me interested in jazz in the beginning,\u201d Arce shared. \u201cEverything he did had a lasting impression on me and on a lot students in my class.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked what it was about this teacher that made music so special for him, Arce was quick to respond, \u201cBecause he loved it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As he moved on to high school, he saw that teachers \u2013including Princess Anne High\u2019s band director John Boyd &#8211; shared that same passion.<\/p>\n<p>As he described it, \u201cthat was it for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A volleyball and baseball player in high school, Arce then went on to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) majoring in music before moving on to earn his master\u2019s degree at New York University.<\/p>\n<p>Since that time, saxophonist Arce is now in high demand and has worked with artists like Adele, Joe Jonas and others. But it was his saxophone work on CeCe Winans\u2019 album \u201cLet Them Fall in Love\u201d that earned him a 2018 Grammy. That album was named Best Gospel Album.<\/p>\n<p>Although he was not in attendance at the 2018 Grammy Awards held in New York City due to a previously scheduled event in Los Angeles, Arce said that he was shocked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI learned about the award that Sunday night through one of the arrangers on the album who called me,\u201d Arce recalled. \u201cHe said \u2018we won\u2019 and my initial response was \u2018for real?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arce, who said he plays all types of music genres, is starting his first tour this month with the singer Blood Orange. When he returns, he is recording his own first album titled \u201cNew Relationship,\u201d which should be released next spring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/229D4B25-B677-4944-9B63-82F812251D63.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8161 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/229D4B25-B677-4944-9B63-82F812251D63-1024x678.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"678\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/229D4B25-B677-4944-9B63-82F812251D63-1024x678.jpeg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/229D4B25-B677-4944-9B63-82F812251D63-300x199.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/229D4B25-B677-4944-9B63-82F812251D63-768x509.jpeg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/229D4B25-B677-4944-9B63-82F812251D63-400x265.jpeg 400w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/229D4B25-B677-4944-9B63-82F812251D63.jpeg 1202w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Arce, however, still calls Virginia Beach home and he\u2019s grateful for his experience in Virginia Beach City Public Schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never really experienced any downsizing with the arts,\u201d he said. \u201cI think having those creative outlets are really important in a school system and I felt Virginia Beach had that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also said that if he could speak to students, he would tell them what he learned here from all of his teachers in VBCPS is to follow your dreams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiterally, anything can be done if you really work hard and focus on something.
