{"id":7927,"date":"2018-06-11T09:38:29","date_gmt":"2018-06-11T13:38:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/?p=7927"},"modified":"2018-06-22T13:25:25","modified_gmt":"2018-06-22T17:25:25","slug":"legal-studies-academy-to-graduate-two-sets-of-twins-in-the-same-class","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/legal-studies-academy-to-graduate-two-sets-of-twins-in-the-same-class\/","title":{"rendered":"Legal Studies Academy to graduate two sets of twins in the same class"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s said to be a bond like none other: having a twin.<\/p>\n<p>And, this year, at First Colonial High School\u2019s Legal Studies Academy (LSA), there was something of a twin connection with two separate set of twins accepted into the academy and graduating together this week. At graduation, Veronica and Victoria Cox (better known as Roni and Tori) and Cabell and Caroline Graves will share their last school memories together as they walk across the Virginia Beach Convention Center stage.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_3728.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7926 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_3728-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"alt=&quot;&quot;\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_3728-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_3728-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_3728-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_3728-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Historically, academies have had an occasional set of twins attend together; however, to have two sets of twins be accepted and attend the same academy is rare.<\/p>\n<p>The Cox and Graves twins knew they were interested in pursuing an academy in high school and they were going to be together while doing it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just didn\u2019t feel like it was time to split up yet,\u201d Cabell said. \u201cWe were really down with going where ever one of us went. (We thought) even if we don\u2019t end doing something in the legal field, we would get good skills out of (the LSA).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roni and Tori applied to a couple of different academies, but had a little help in finalizing their decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy parents, I think influenced us and said, \u2018Well, it will be a lot of easier if you two went to the same school,\u2019\u201d Roni said with a laugh.<\/p>\n<p>They all agree having that built-in study buddy, confidant and friend made their experiences in LSA that much easier.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Just having someone to practice your opening or closing with or your senior project,\u201d Tori said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s also just kind of cool to have similar experiences, and you can learn from each other,\u201d Roni said. \u201cIt just helped over the four years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Graves sisters agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always had someone there if I was struggling with a project or homework, or practicing for a project,\u201d Caroline said.<\/p>\n<p>And, with two people going through the academy, there was twice as much to take in and share.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt made the academy like a richer experience because we had different teachers and different classes and we talked about what we learned, just interesting things and things we found fascinating,\u201d Cabell said. \u201cI feel like we learned more and grew more just through that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sisters each added that the academy helped prepare them for the demands and expectations of today\u2019s professional world. And, they will take those experiences with them as they head off to college \u2013 each out on their own. Roni will attend Virginia Tech; Tori will attend Virginia Commonwealth University; Cabell will attend the University of Virginia; and Caroline will attend the University of Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited to just branch out and do my own thing,\u201d said Caroline. \u201cI\u2019ve been with her my whole life, so I\u2019m ready to be my own person and do my own thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy future is developing in front of me and it\u2019s exciting and new,\u201d Cabell said.<\/p>\n<p>However, that does not mean there is not also some bittersweet emotions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the beginning, it was, \u2018We\u2019re definitely going to different schools.\u2019 Now, that it&#8217;s getting closer, it\u2019s starting to hit that we\u2019re not going to be with each other,\u201d Tori said. \u201cIn reality, your twin is your best friend \u2013 whether you want to admit to it or not, so it\u2019s hard to leave them.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s said to be a bond like none other: having a twin.
