During his blind audition, Maroon 5 lead singer and Voice coach Adam Levine quickly added Showell to his team to compete this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m ridiculously excited,\u201d Showell said during a phone interview. \u201cI remember talking about wanting to be on &#8216;The Voice&#8217; years ago. I\u2019m humbled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7037\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Brandon236.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2500\" height=\"1667\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Brandon236.jpg 2500w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Brandon236-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Brandon236-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Brandon236-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Brandon236-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2500px) 100vw, 2500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Showell has always been a performer \u2013 the former senior class president was a member of Landstown\u2019s madrigals, thespian society, senior honor choir. The list went on and on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnything performing arts, I was a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following graduation, Showell attended George Mason University, where he majored in English and music. With his college degree in hand, he began pursuing his dream of performing \u2013 in any way possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI began an audition spree. Whatever I could find, I auditioned,\u201d Showell said. He would eventually land a job with the Caribbean cruise line, performing shows five nights a week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wore a big afro and bell bottoms, did some 70s and 80s tunes. It was really a lot of fun, but a lot of hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Showell knew that his dreams were bigger than the cruise ship.<\/p>\n<p>Showell, who is classically trained, worked with a pop vocal coach for a year to prepare for his audition on \u201cThe Voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He began the auditioning process with the show back in March &#8211; contestants must go through a thorough casting process to even make it to the blind auditions, including open calls, auditions in front of producers and then another round of auditions in front of network executives.<\/p>\n<p>And, Showell has made it through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel great, I feel relieved, I feel excited about the reception of what I did,\u201d he said. \u201cAlong with connecting with me vocally, people really connected with my story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And as for what it\u2019s like to work with Levine?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s very supportive,\u201d Showell said. \u201cWe\u2019re able to talk just talk about random things. I always tell people he\u2019s really a chill guy who happens to sing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Showell said he does keep in touch with some of his teachers &#8211; from both Landstown and from when he attended Corporate Landing Middle School. He also shared that if he could give any advice for students today, his message would be simple: Don\u2019t settle<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGo for what is going to make you happy in life. Go for it. If you fall on your face, it\u2019s ok,\u201d he said. \u201cI would say continue to challenge yourself. If something doesn\u2019t work out, keep going.
