Williams and Newtown Elementary Schools. It teaches leadership and life skills to students while focusing on Steven Covey\u2019s <em>7 Habits of Highly Effective People<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are a <em>Leader In Me<\/em> School and I really love for the children to show their leadership skills,\u201d said Delores Simpson, club sponsor. \u201cGives them an opportunity to shine. They have a light and we want to let that light shine by practicing the seven habits every day and showing what they\u2019ve learned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6680\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4288\" height=\"2848\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-2.jpg 4288w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-2-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-2-768x510.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-2-1024x680.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-2-400x266.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 4288px) 100vw, 4288px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students were able to demonstrate for their parents how they use those habits every day.<\/p>\n<p>Kimani\u2019s favorite habit is <em>Put First Things First<\/em>. \u201cBecause I like to do my homework first before I play every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy favorite habit is <em>Beginning With the End in Mind<\/em>,\u201d said Payton.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the year, the club does fundraisers, operates the school\u2019s United Way campaign, creates messages pertaining to the SOLs on the morning announcements and organizes the school spirit day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to be in the <em>Leader In Me<\/em> Club,\u201d said Dominic. \u201cSo I can learn to lead others to follow the good path, the path to success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6681\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4288\" height=\"2848\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-3.jpg 4288w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-3-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-3-768x510.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-3-1024x680.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Newtown-3-400x266.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 4288px) 100vw, 4288px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year the children were able to decide what club they wanted to be in,\u201d Simpson explained. \u201cThey had to submit a letter and an application and say why they wanted to be in the club and we made our selections from there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emmaline explained that her favorite habit is <em>Seek First to Understand<\/em>. \u201cI have to listen twice or do things twice before I can actually understand it.\u201d The third-grade student continued, \u201cIt\u2019s a habit that me and my brother need to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have this mindset of training little children to be leaders,\u201d said Simpson. \u201cYou know they can run the classroom; they can pretty much run the school; you put them out there and they know what to do.
