They were on-hand to salute members of the PAHS girls basketball team who are fresh off an unprecedented fourth straight state championship.<\/p>\n<p>This was the 12<sup>th<\/sup> annual MaxPreps Basketball Tour of Champions (TOC) presented by the National Guard. According to MaxPreps, an online source covering high school sports, the TOC is considered one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the MaxPrep National Rankings. For basketball, only 20 of the country\u2019s best teams are invited out of nearly 40,000 competing varsity teams.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6611\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-1.jpg\" alt=\"MaxPreps 1\" width=\"5172\" height=\"3840\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-1.jpg 5172w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-1-300x223.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-1-768x570.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-1-1024x760.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-1-400x297.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 5172px) 100vw, 5172px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Princess Anne finished atop the MaxPreps Virginia Division 5A computer rankings as well as No. 72 in MaxPreps national rankings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do this to honor the students for all of their hard work and achievements,\u201d said Ray Dungy of MaxPreps. \u201cIt\u2019s worth traveling the country, just to see their smiling faces. Plus, it\u2019s an honor working with the National Guard to present student-athletes a national ranking trophy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Station commander Sgt. First Class Holly Snead talked about her unit\u2019s participation. \u201cIt\u2019s important for the National Guard to be involved in all community events because we\u2019re known in the community as citizen soldiers. It keeps us visible, let\u2019s people know who we are and we just like to be involved in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Head basketball coach Darnell Dozier explained that his four-time champion\u2019s accomplishments go well beyond the school. \u201cIt\u2019s not only important to us, we do this for the entire city. It puts us on the map. It gets the girls noticed in school. It gets us noticed by all of the schools in the country. Today is just a big event and we\u2019re very proud of today\u2019s national recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the assembly was closing, the team was called onstage where National Guard members presented them with the Minuteman trophy, symbolizing their state and national rankings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6612\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-2.jpg\" alt=\"MaxPreps 2\" width=\"5760\" height=\"3840\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-2.jpg 5760w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-2-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-2-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/MaxPreps-2-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 5760px) 100vw, 5760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday has been amazing,\u201d said Nyla Pollard, team captain. \u201cEvery time that we\u2019re recognized it\u2019s just a refreshing feeling. Just to know that people see that you\u2019ve worked hard. Nothing was given to us; we definitely worked for what we received. It\u2019s an amazing feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Princess Anne finished with a 28-2 season and is the only school in Virginia to win four consecutive state basketball titles.
